I recently went on a 2 month road trip. I took along the Hand Held Vacuum Sealer and a small supply of quart and gallon bags. What a life(food)saver! My cheese stayed fresh the entire time, even though I opened the bag many times. While visiting with my mother-in-law and sister-in-law, they were impressed with how I was able to keep items safe and fresh. As a thank you gift for staying with them, I ordered one for each of them!

Overall rating
The Handheld Food Saver Vacuum is very easy to use. The quart and gallon bags seal easily and are reusable. The vacuum containers are great. They allow me to store items for extended period of time without the contents spoiling.

no more science projects in the fridge

If you cook or just eat you will love this little gem. Got one for my son and he loves it. He's a bachelor and we are empty nesters. The deli containers are wonderful for lunch meats and cheeses. We can buy the larger sizes and the products stay fresh until we get around to using all. The reseal process is "idiot proof" and so fast. I keep my unit on the counter and plugged in all the time and "zap" my food is safe from becoming a "science project" in the fridge.

I have a heat-seal FoodSaver that works well for long-term storage in the freezer. The consumables for that system are not really cost-effective for refrigerated storage not only because of the cost of the rolls and bags, but also because every time the film is resealed, it becomes shorted by about 1.5".
I was hoping that the reusable bags would provide a more appropriate system for refrigerated foods. The handheld vacuum sealer works great with the possible exception that it takes two hand to remove it from the charging base. There are, however, two problems with the resealable bags--aside again from their cost which limits their use to more expensive perishable foods:
1) the resealable opening is much smaller than the width of the bags making it difficult to insert certain types of delicate foods which become damaged and also clog the zipper.
2) the sealing valve sometimes gets stuck to the base. If so, it needs to be fiddled with before the first use in order for it to release air from the bag--but more importantly it seems to work well only for a single use!
The plastic valve that is glued over the evacuation hole seems to get stuck after being used once, and when I try to use the bag a second time, the pump cannot suck the air through the stuck valve. Inserting a thin paring knife under the top sheet on the value seems to work, but be careful not to stretch the thin top membrane.

I love this product. But it is difficult to find the gallon zip bags on the FoodSaver web site. Easier to buy them on Ebay.

This is a great product and easy to use. This is my second purchase, it was a gift. I plan on buying more as gifts. Also I am a house hold of 1 and foods spoil quickly - this helps to slow down the process. I actually get to finish foods instead of throwing them into to garbage.

I wanted to wait to write a review until I had used this for a while. I had purchased the first handheld vacuum they came out with and it would not hold a charge so I was very skeptical about purchasing another one. The new one holds a charge and works flawlessly. You do have to get it very flat for it to work, so you cannot overload the bags, but it works great.

I have a number of Food Saver items and love them all. The Fresh Saver for using with the fridge savers is wonderful and although I had one and use it constantly, I bought another just in case. I do hope new things keep coming!

Have purchased many of Foodsaver's products and have found that they all preform as advertised. I've found so many other products of all kinds that do not preform as manufacturers claim. This product is like a breath of fresh air. We've been using the Handheld Vacuum System, and have found the handheld unit and the zip lock bags so easy to use. GREAT PRODUCT!!

Great little product. Small enough so storage isn't an issue and very easy to use once you get the hang of it. I just wish freezer bags were available for it!

I thought it was too much of a bargain to be a good product, but I was surprised. I've been very pleased with it so far, but garden produce season is still around the corner so I'll give you an update when I've done more with it.

We have the large sealer, but it is not as convenient for use for small kitchen items such as cheese when you have a little and want to keep re-sealing. The handheld is so small it sits on the counter is is barely visible. The bags do lose the seal if you aren't very careful about keeping bag seal clean before sealing. It is so easy to use!

Love using this to quickly seal my containers for deli meat and recently I tried it with fresh herbs in the containers - worked great ! Kept my basil fresh OVER twice as long. My local store didn't carry the fuchsia color - so I am glad that I found this one online. Now, I only have to bring out my Food Saver/Sealer for when I do the larger bulk sealing of meats, veggies and our family tradition making periogi's will be much nicer and economical using the long roll of plastic for long term freezer items too.

I have had a food saver machine since it first aired on TV , they make great products and this handheld vacuum is great for deli-meats etc. and I also use to seal up leftover fritos etc. Love it!
